Jesus drenched in well-washed inundation,
Like soil that can’t hold more precipitates,
Then rushing rain quite supersaturates
Water works with floods of supererogation.
Breathing deeply you rise, garments soaking,
Black hair haloed bright with droplets shaken,
Tallith cleansed by Jordan’s serum taken,
Our God’s mercy and bidding prompt provoking.
In dryness of desert then find God’s tasks,
He sends where arid to discern the centre,
Lizards, jackals, offer to be his mentor,
He in God’s love and blessing warmly basks.
In memory and yearning gladly immersed,
While catechumens in Torah are versed.
